The specialist in motorcycle cylinders and car engines. As you may know, PowerSeal has been around for 30 years. PowerSeal initially started with NiKaSil® of motorcycles cylinders. The reason for that was simply the fact that, as the owner, I was busy doing Motocross racing and Enduro riding. So I myself was in the group where the demand for faster turnover and better NiKaSil® was most wanted.
In addition to Motocross and enduro cylinders, applications for go-kart cylinders and vintage bikes soon started to come in.
All this required some adjustments in preparation because I was well known in the world of MotoCross but still had to learn a lot about the demands that are made on a cylinder in the karting world. Cylinders and pistons were easier to handle in the Motocross and Karting world than in the the old-timer market.
Kart cylinders have the same problem as other cylinders with the difference that a cylinder jam is felt earlier in karting and the damage is therefore often less. Occasionally this can be fixed with a light honing treatment so that an oversised piston can be used.
With an old-timer cylinder often you had to deal with the actual owners / collectors who really wanted to tell the whole story about their old-timer.
In addition to that, old-timer cylinders are usually made of steel or cast iron. They were not originally coated and had reached the last oversize. The alternative is to apply a new NiKaSil® layer and make the cylinder in the original size. However, this operation requires a different preparation and pre-treatment of the cylinder in connection with the adhesion of our NiKaSil® coating. The disadvantage of this type of cylinder is that if the layer has to be removed again later, this requires more time because the removal of NiKaSil® from steel or cast iron is a long-term operation. The advantage is that, if desired, oversize pistons can be used again and the cylinder runs much quieter and smoother with more horse power.
Over the years, questions came as to whether pneumatic cylinders or cylinders for non-standard purposes can be processed too. Cylinders for pumping oil or stationary engines. This usually requires deviating molds to protect parts that may not be coated. These cylinders can usually be made.
Not to be forgotten are the cylinders for racing engines. From small 50cc Kreider’s or Malagutis to 125cc Hondas, Suzuki’s and Yamaha’s. These last-mentioned cylinders were used for 125cc racers, 250cc racers and even 500cc GP engines which were used by heroes such as Wil Hartog, Jack Middelburg and international greats such as Kevin Schwantz and Kenny Roberts, not to mention Valentino Rossi just to name a few famous names.
Also in Powerboats, Jet skis and Snowmobiles the most diverse cylinders are used.
In order to keep the PowerSeal quality up to a high standard and to continue to meet the wishes of our customers, we have continued to improve the quality by initially processing all the ports afterwards, grinding the exhaust bridges as in standard quality requirements.Furthermore, a common matter is repairing the cylinder by welding the damage that has occurred. This requires a high level of craftsmanship because the internal welding of cylinders with a wide variety of aluminum is no mean feat. The damage must be honed before, welded and afterwards the welding must be adjusted by hand. The possible damaged ports or head must be manually returned to their original sizing. A very intensive process that is the base for the new NiKaSil® layer to be applied.
PowerSeal can repair almost any cylinder from large to small, 2-stroke or 4-stroke, one cylinder or V12 damaged or only worn out, and in many cases deliver it better than new and possibly even with better performance. Also possible is the delivery off new pistons and further parts that fit the new coated cylinders.
